In '87 or '88 a friend of mine asked me to help him drive a car back from Las Vegas. I had nothing better to do so I took a week of vacation and went to Vegas. It turns out the car was a lime-green 1970 Road Runner in cherry condition with a Hurst trans and all the gear-head trimmings. In the middle of August we drove this thing across the desert, baking alive on the black pleather interior. We must have had twenty cash offers for the thing; everytime we stopped for gas someone wanted to look under the hood. The car conked out in Erick, OK. I was late for work so I flew back (ask me about the bartender in Oklahoma City sometime), but my buddy rented a U-Haul with a dolly and towed the car up here. The guy we were moving it for still made a small fortune on the thing... And today? I drive a Saturn...
