Here in the US we use the steel rail shown here, but our posts are 'scored' wood which rest atop low concrete piers and are designed to snap off easily. Look for it next time you're on the road.
This is a Volvo station wagon, which though advertised as a safe vehicle is not safe when driven like a spike into the guardrail.
We advise drivers to approach the rail in a rather parallel fashion which scratches the finish to shit but also 'scoots' them back onto the road
