Priceless. Dumbass.
(via Graf)
Gonzo's gotta take some of the blame, too. Usually on gimme plays like that, players are guilty of throwing before catching. Alex looked the ball all the way into his glove, and still managed to boot it. Freakish play, freakish night.
If the Marlins manage to beat Prior and Wood in consecutive starts, they belong in the World Series. (That's only happened once, by the way, against the White Sox.)
Another angle for all you curse theorists out there. (I'm with Dusty. History had nothing to do with it.) Local Fox coverage this morning: Blame Bernie Mac! He changed the 7th Inning Stretch from"root for the Cubbies" to "root for the Champs," jinxing the game! AND he's from the Sout' Side! Saboteur! J'accuse!

I no longer have any idea how to embed images or HTML into my comments since this thing switched to Movable Type (I did figure out how to upload an image though!), so just type the following URL into your location bar for yet another witty posting: http://www.house8.net/weblog/archives/fan_hatred.gif

Dont blame the guy that he deflected the ball away. How is that responsible for the ubs giving up 8 runs you idiots. Blame your lame a$$ team.
Besides how do you know the ubs were gonna win anyways even if Moises had made the catch you fukking idiots.
Stop looking for someone to blame for your team not being good enough to beat the Marlins.
This guy deflected the ball away yea, but did he also give up 8 runs? I think not. So shut up...you guys just weren't good enough...plain and fukking simple...you sons of byatches..............and I guess none of you idiots who are talking here saw the video...you know I would have only assumed you guys were idiots...but then you had to open your big stupid mouth and so now im sure that you're idiots...cuz if you look at the video, you will see that there were like 10 other people reaching for the ball at the same time this kid was...it just happened that he was the one that touched it, some of the others were like inches away from the ball...dummies...go fukk yourself and learn something about basebal before you open your mouths ok...
Well thats it for me, I have wasted enough time here, yes thats what it was a waste of my time, cuz you idiots arent even worth one fukking secong of my mother fukking time...

Jason, wanna become a member? We need this type of in-depth analysis around here.
Upon reflection, I'll bet most normally even-keeled fans can sympathize with Mr. Bartman's situation. I know I do. Do I blame him for the Cubs losing game 6? Absolutely not. He was in the wrong place at the wrong time, but sometimes life's a bitch like that (or a son of a byatch?) I do, however, think it's funny how the parodies and scapegoating (pun, intended, I suppose) sprung up within hours. What's not funny are the TV cameras camped on his front doorstep, or hate mail and death threats at his job.
As I said earlier, Alex Gonzalez should've made the play at short. Dusty probably shouldn't have given them two intentional walks. Shoulda Woulda Coulda. Just Wait Til Next Year (TM).
This will all become yet another footnote in the history of the Cubs inability to get the job done. And he's gonna make a GREAT Halloween costume.
And one other note, Jason. Before you go around spouting terms such as "LAMERS," please examine how you are spelling "fuck."
andrew 16 Oct 2003
there's no way around it - that was the turning point for the game. the fans lost focus, and directed attention to bartman. that's all the marlins needed was to have the pressure taken off them for that instance. next thing you know, there's a big fat 8 on board. you've gotta tip you hats to the marlins for beating our best pitcher. they found their opening and took advantage. we'll get 'em next year.

Being a die-hard fan of the N.Y. Jets - I truly identify with the feeling of being a long-suffering fan.
However to trash this guys life over a foul ball is truly ridiculous. This poor bastard is being scorned upon like he was just connected to September 11 or the Oklahoma bombing. There is no excuse for trashing someones life over a damn sporting event. Lets keep things in perspective. I was rooting all out for the Cubbies as much as anyone, but you can't hang 8 runs on this guy!!
And if Dusty Baker had any cahonnas, he wouldn't be pointing the finger at Bartman either, but realizing his own teams failure to put away Florida in three games, two at home with there best pitchers on the mound. Yea - it was all Steve Bartman's fault. Anyone making death threats over this or contributing to making this guys life more miserable than it already is, really has a mentality problem.

You know, in the end it's a game.
This is probably the closest I've come to watching a complete Cubs game in years.
I put this picture up as a parody of the 30 years of frustration fans have endured, and the idea that someone would take that out on this guy is pathetic.
Look at him.
It's a joke that anyone would consider for a moment that this poor schmuck - who obviously loves the team (best night of his life, I bet, until that moment) - would do anything to harm them.
I have no idea what the timestamp was on my post, but it was right after it happened. There was no malice or ill intent.
It's a joke, morons!
I frankly thought - and still do - the idea that this FAN could have had any effect on THIS game is ludicrous. And considering the lunacy on both sides (especially in the comments on this thread) I'm inclined to believe I wasn't sarcastic enough.
I blame Alou for making this more than it ever should have been, and for breaking the team's momentum, and I get on board with Andrew's comments too.
QTip 16 Oct 2003
Bartman is one dumb fuck. If you're sitting by the wall and the pop fly is borderline. Wouldn't you have the sense to look and see if you're squad has a chance to make the catch. If its the other team, by all means lean over the fence and do something. However, when you're team's in the field, use some freakin sense. This guy needs to move out of town. Perhaps to Florida.

Actually it is Alou's fault. It would have been ok with the fans bbut after Steve deflected the ball he pointed at Steve and shouted at him drawing a lot of unecessary attention to Steve.
After that Steve Bartman was just used as a scapegoat. Someone to put the blame on for them giving up 8 runs in one inning.
CubsFan 16 Oct 2003
Yea it was Moises. Let's kill Moises, not Steve. Steve is the poor innocent one in all of this. For Moises its just a game. For Steve, this is his whole life ruined now, because of a stupid friggin game. Come on there are a lot of things in life more important than a stupid game.
Kill Moises 16 Oct 2003
The whole Steve Bartman thing has officially jumped shark. Could everyone please move on.
Chris 16 Oct 2003
Oh leave the guy alone, I'm a Chicagoan and a huge Cubs fan but everyone was reaching for the ball and all you idiots who say he lost us the game would've reached for it too, I guarentee it. PLUS...instead of bitching about that guy, the Cubs and its fans who are acting like as*holes should bitch about the Cubs losing 3 games in a row, 2 at Wrigley!! Move on!!! LET IT GO AND GET LIVES! ~Thank u!! :-)
Natalie 16 Oct 2003
5 outs to go...moises had a beat on it...then that ass needed the $7 souvenir. f*ck that guy.
