Fuck You and Your H2
Wow. The Internet has something for everyone.

I agree, there are far too many SUVs worthy of the same contempt the H2 receives. I think it is largely (no pun intended) due to the way the H2 is marketed. I honestly believe there's a segment of H2 owners who think they're somehow being patriotic by driving it as well.
On top of H2 being one of the worst gas guzzlers out there, the commercials are so over-the-top in fostering that "hey let's drive wherever we want" reality distortion field. Do you know how much it would cost to get your H2 to some of those locations? But hey, how different is the arctic tundra from the strip mall parking lot, really?
There are some Toyota (ironically enough) and Land Rover commercials that are right up there in that dept. too, though.
I've read reports of wide swings in fuel economy in all hybrid vehicles, due primarily to individual driving style (punching it off the line doesn't help ANY vehicle's fuel enconomy) and (don't quote me on this) that the Prius and the Honda Insight require a bit more brake-riding to charge the electric side of the equation.
However you slice it, a vehicle like the Prius that's focused on fuel economy is a far better direction to be moving in than the H2 and its ilk.

A stupid vehicle for sure, but it's scale and styling is what drives people nuts- and that's what draws attention. In terms of economy, weight, size, it's no different than many other trucks and SUVs, but it's interesting how it attracts such rants.
I love how the website says its the "ultimate poseur vehicle". I sorta think the same about the Toyota Prius. The Prius is tauted as some saintly vehicle, but unless you drive an awful lot of miles, a conventional Corolla makes better economic sense. Most folks who drive Prius in the DC area drive them for 2 reasons: 1) to legally be able to drive single in carpool lanes, 2) to try to make some kind of holier than thou statement, thus resulting in a curious form of conspicuous consumption. Me, I'll just try to combine trips, try not to be a speed freak, and ride my bike a little more.
