The latest additions to Gerhard Richter's site are now live. They've been a long time coming, but we think it's turned out pretty cool. The site now offers interactive exhibition tours from past shows of Richter's work. And if you haven't seen John's completely kickass timeline, yougonow.
There's currently only a couple of exhibitions populated with art, but hopefully there will be more added in the near future. It's another great way to explore the incredible breadth and depth of Richter's work.

I came across a site that not only contains paintings of Abe Lincoln in a cage match, but also has sweet little nuggets like this Law & Order coloring book!

Remember this diagnosis:
"I called the doctor on the telephone
Said Doctor, Doctor, please
I got this feeling
rocking and a'reeling
tell me, what can it be, is it some new disease?
They call it Boogie fever
You got to boogie down
Boogie fever, I think it's going around"
Well, apparently, it was really lung cancer.

Hah hah!
This happened at my alma mater, University of Rochester, only for real. A large multinational corporation came in and re-named the common eating/hanging out/procrastinating area (known informally as "The Pit") to "PepsiCo Plaza." Put up a sign and everything!
"Hey man, catch ya at PepsiCo Plaza later! We'll get a slice!"

OK, so I'm not il Postino the Music Guru, but here's some interesting stuff...

Johnny Cash has had about as interesting a life as any musician could hope to have, and while he's an acquired taste, there's probably something in his catalog for everyone.
Hobbled by a neurological disorder, his voice worn from years of (ab)use, and coming off the death of his wife this summer, Cash stands nominated for 6 VMA's for his video "Hurt". Strange as it might seem for Cash to be singing a Nine Inch Nails song, when paired with the video it's sort of moving. Check it out, it's pretty cool (it's also 9mb).
If it's celebrity dead pool you want to play, sadly my money's on Warren Zevon. Only a few of his songs got regular airplay, but the guy cracks me up. On his most recent tour Bob Dylan played one or two Zevon songs each night. Zevon included Dylan's "Knocking On Heaven's Door" on his last album; it ships tomorrow.
If all of this shite is too depressing, please watch this.

Brian Cho is working on a reality show here in town entitled, "Starting Over". Starting Over is shot in a Victorian house in Chicago and the art department is looking for work to be displayed in the house. Looking specifically for local female artists who are interested in having their artwork displayed in the show for 9 months or so.
Brian wants to look at some sample slides, and the artwork should be some what traditional. The show is like Oprah! meets "Real World." They are looking for "Non-controversial" pieces; sort of like the NEA these days. Remember, artwork by females only.
Mail slides to:
3540 N. Southport Avenue #258
Chicago, IL 60657
Any questions, e-mail Brian Cho at echo7@concentric.net

How free is your speech? Well, for the time being, you can download a CDs worth of illegal music for nothing right here. Includes the hilarious Negativland "U2" single with Casey Kasem's tirade.

From the "inexplicably anachronistic news story" category... did CNN go back in time 20 years to get this dish?

"People like me and Neil Young and Bob Dylan and even U2, we're from a time you just played live, and the idea of playing with tapes is something you'd never consider," he says. "Today, the excuse is, 'Well, we've got to dance a lot. We're out of breath, so we can't sing.' Well, Fred Astaire could. Time it so you can do both."

Gear up. Thomas Kincade (the "artist" responsible for those execrable "paintings of light") has swapped careers and penned a best-seller every bit as sappy and faux-quaint as his paintings.
Kinkade has branched out with "the Thomas Kinkade lifestyle brand," including furniture and this book "Cape Light". Kinkade certainly contributed no more than his name, the 600-odd words of introduction and the preposterous cover painting depicting a stone cottage with lighthouse surrounded, unhelpfully, by trees. "Cape Light is a place," Kinkade assures us, "where people have the time to savor life's simple pleasures" (presumably between shipwrecks).

Our intention was always to create something unique, while at the same time satisfying a real need. We felt the timing was right. With Artnet, the largest and most influential art e-commerce site, abandoning their attempts to auction art (losing too much $$$), and smaller sites folding left and right, we knew it would be foolish to build a site founded on selling art. In fact, what was needed was not a site for art buyers, but for visual artists Ð that spoke directly to artists. Give artists the news, articles, reviews, and interviews that matter Ð in a relaxed, stylish setting devoid of the aloofness and myopia that plagues the art world. But also make ArtKrush a valuable, hands-on resource by offering information on grants, scholarships, jobs and calls for entry. And finally, for ArtKrush to have real staying power, it must be a national site. In other words, the content must be consistently high-quality and intriguingly diverse.
